This page explains the court’s process. It is not legal advice, and this site is not a law firm.
The detail
This page covers the building itself: how to get in, where to park, what the departments are and how the drop box works. Which courthouse takes a particular case is set by zip code and is covered on which Riverside County courthouse takes your family law case; how the whole court is organized is in the Riverside County family court, explained.

Getting in
The court describes the building as “a five-story building that houses six courtrooms,” and says the main entrance is on the north or rear of the building facing Market Street1. The court’s page states that entrances are not available on Main Street1.
Visitors pass through security screening with a metal detector1. The clerk’s office is on the first floor and uses a ticketing system, and a second-floor clerk’s office also exists1. The page does not say which office handles which kind of paper, so the ticket desk or the phone line is the way to find out.
For accommodations such as a sign language interpreter or captioning, the court’s page says to use Judicial Council form MC-410 at least five court days before the hearing1. The Judicial Council’s request-for-order form (FL-300), in the court’s ex parte packet, states a slightly different lead time (“at least five days before the proceeding”)4; the court’s own page is the more specific of the two.
Parking
Parking is metered on city streets. The court lists parking structures at 3535 12th Street, 4090 Lemon Street and 3964 Orange Street, plus city lots1. The Park Riverside app gives 30 minutes free at on-street meters and 60 minutes free in off-street lots, and placard holders park free in any space1.
Hours, the phone line and the drop box
Three different times apply, and they are easy to confuse.
| What | Time |
|---|---|
| Building and counter | Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.1 |
| Clerk’s office by phone | 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday except court holidays1 |
| Drop box | Until 4:00 p.m., excluding weekends and court holidays1 |
The court’s wording on the drop box: “Documents deposited in a drop box after 4:00 p.m. will be processed the next court day”1. It cites California Rules of Court, rule 2.210 for that rule1. Documents can also be sent through the court’s online portal, eSubmit, which is described in eSubmit and remote hearings in Riverside family law6.
The six departments
| Department | Floor | Calendar on the court’s September 2026 assignment sheet |
|---|---|---|
| F201 | 2 | Family law12 |
| F301 | 3 | Domestic violence12 |
| F401 | 4 | Family law12 |
| F402 | 4 | Family law12 |
| F501 | 5 | Family law; the court’s page links standing orders for this department12 |
| F502 | 5 | Domestic violence; adoptions and parental terminations12 |
The assignment sheet is dated “Updated 9/15/26”2. Judges rotate, so this page does not name them; the sheet lists the current assignments.
Case numbers that belong to this courthouse
The court’s reference guide, revised July 7, 2024, lists these prefixes as heard at the Riverside Family Law Courthouse7:
| Prefix | Case type |
|---|---|
| FLRI, RID, FAM | Family law |
| DVRI, RIV | Domestic violence |
| ADRI, RIA | Adoption |
| CSRI, RIK | Department of Child Support Services cases |
Sources disagree The reference guide lists the prefix FAM twice: under the Riverside Family Law Courthouse and under the Larson Justice Center in Indio7. The guide does not say how to tell the two apart. The petitioner receives a notice of case assignment when the petition is filed8; the clerk’s office can say where a particular case number is pending.
Who files here
Under the court’s administrative order effective July 8, 2024, the western region files at this courthouse: Banning, Beaumont, Cabazon, Calimesa, Corona, Mira Loma, Moreno Valley, Perris, Riverside and Whitewater3. A resident of Corona or Moreno Valley therefore files in Riverside even though both cities have their own courthouses, because neither of those buildings is a family law filing location39. The full zip code lists are on the courthouse-by-zip-code page.
Other courthouses on Main Street
Three court buildings on Main Street have different numbers and different calendars2:
- 4175 Main Street: the Riverside Family Law Courthouse, this page.
- 4100 Main Street: the Hall of Justice. The assignment sheet lists Department 55 there for Department of Child Support Services child support, a DCSS Menifee calendar on Thursdays and case settlement conferences on Fridays, and Department 65 for mandatory settlement conference hearings2.
- 4050 Main Street: the Historic Courthouse, listed for civil and probate departments2.
The notice for a hearing names the building and department; check it against this list before leaving home. The settlement conference process is explained in the mandatory settlement conference article.
Help on site
The Self-Help Information page lists public access computers in the lobby of the Riverside Family Law Courthouse, for case access, calendars and forms; the court says there is no fee to use the computers or any assistance provided by court staff9. The court adds that its staff “cannot provide legal advice,” but can explain procedures10. The Judicial Council’s Family Law Facilitator guide, dated November 2023, lists the Riverside facilitator and self-help contact at 4175 Main Street, phone 951-274-44995. What Self Help Legal Services can and cannot do is covered in the self-help center article.
When to get help
Self Help Legal Services is the free route: court staff explain procedures and forms to people without attorneys, though they cannot tell anyone which choice to make10. Legal aid organizations and the Law Library are covered in free and low-cost family law help. A reason to ask before traveling: the court says the courthouse for a case depends on the zip code of the parties and the law for the case type, and tells filers to consult the clerk’s office or get legal assistance when it is unclear11. If anyone is in immediate danger, the court’s domestic violence page says to call 91112.
